CLAS Communications and Outreach
How to Promote Your Unit
Keep Us Informed
- Let CLAS Communications and Outreach know about print and web materials produced within your department, either by your faculty and staff or by third-party vendors. Keeping track of these efforts allows us to complement and support efforts throughout the college by providing additional avenues of promotion.
- CLAS Communications and Outreach can help units identify areas in which costs can be reduced and budgets used most effectively.
Get the News Out
We encourage faculty and units to let us know of any news they hear of in their departments. Every lead can generate a news story, whether it be a small mention in Around the College, a biography in Head of the CLAS, a feature news story, or a press release. The only way the story gets out is to let us know. In turn, we forward story ideas on the local media and to the university News Bureau.
We also encourage units to take advantage of the stories we generate and use them as content on their home pages. Updated web content keeps their site current and encourages repeat usage.
Tell Us About Your Research and Accomplishments
CLAS Communications and Outreach announces events and accomplishments on the college website, www.clas.ufl.edu. Send your updates to editor@clas.ufl.edu.
Outside Media Contacts
If you are contacted by an outside media group planning to film you on campus, you MUST notify University Relations BEFOREHAND at 392-0186 to request permission. Please also inform CLAS News and Publications.
You are free to talk with print media at your leisure, though we would appreciate a heads up, as we track CLAS media hits and use this information to generate news for the web site.
If you would like to become one of those “expert faculty” sources quoted often in the national media, sign up to be listed in the UF experts guide at www.experts.ufl.edu.
Promoting Community Outreach
The UF Office of Community Relations is undertaking a project to highlight the many UF efforts in community outreach. In order to accomplish this, they will need the assistance of each college.
There are many wonderful ways in which UF provides community service for the homeless, in the schools, for animals, in the provision of medical and dental care, in the provision of life-enhancing information, and more. The Office of Community Relations (www.urel.ufl.edu/communityRelations/) is requesting that each college establish a link on its homepage to information on its community outreach projects.
They will link each college to the UF Community Relations page so people can find the many different ways in which UF is involved in our community. The long term goal with this project is to have a searchable database by topic that can help people find information on their specific interests.
Please inform CLAS Communications and Outreach of the outreach efforts of your departments so we can aid in the development of this important network.
